Student Part-Time Job After Tax 2025-26
See your take-home pay for part-time hours at the National Minimum Wage (£12.21/hr for 21+) in the 2025-26 tax year.
Key tax fact: the Personal Allowance
Every UK resident gets a Personal Allowance of £12,570 — the amount you can earn before paying any Income Tax. If your annual earnings are below £12,570, you pay NO Income Tax at all. For most part-time students working fewer than 25 hours/week at NMW, this means zero income tax.

How much can I earn before paying tax as a student?
You can earn up to £12,570 per year without paying any Income Tax — this is the Personal Allowance for 2025-26. It applies to everyone regardless of whether you are a student or not.
Important: National Insurance (NI) has the same threshold as Income Tax — £12,570/year (£242/week) in 2025-26. If you earn below this, you pay neither Income Tax nor NI. Above this threshold, NI is charged at 8% on earnings between £12,570 and £50,270.
