How is council tax calculated?
Council tax is based on your property band (A–H in England and Scotland, A–I in Wales), set using 1991 property valuations. Each local authority sets a Band D rate, and all other bands are calculated as a proportion of that. Band A pays two-thirds (6/9) of Band D, while Band H pays double (18/9).
